Can Tho – Floating market

We travelled by taxi from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, the journey took 3 hours and was very scenic, we assed many beautiful and asked the driver to stop so we could get a better view. It was a very nice trip actually and the roads were better than we expected.

We arrived in Can Tho and stayed a little out of town in a newly created home-stay near the river, this was an excellent choice, the host was fantastic and the river was extremely scenic. At the home-stay we rented a bicycle and drove around to see many factories, schools and local villages, a trip that showed me how simple life can be managed and for how few means a family can be sustained.

We booked a delta river tour and sailed in the delta all the way to town to see the floating market in the river. There were many houses on the river banks and many people taking an early morning bath in the river. Best of all was that this was 100% authentic, something we have never seen before.

Not like in Bangkok, where one get a feeling it is created for the pleasure of tourists. The Can Tho floating market was very busy, big, chaotic and beautiful to see in the early morning. We also went ashore and saw where the goods ended up being sold to the consumer and that shore market was also very busy in the early mornings.

We njoyed a cup of local coffee with a vendor selling seeds (and coffee) and he told about the life on the river.

We highly recommend Can Tho city, so when you are doing a trip to the delta don’t miss out on this hidden gem.
